Does your bank do online statements?

I’m a lucky member of the teachers credit union, lucky for many reasons but just one of them is that they offer online statements. Meaning you get no correspondence via traditional mail.

They are also donating $1 into the Teachers Environment Fund for each member who signs up for e-statements.

Ask yourself, do you really need all those paper statements every month? I know I don’t, which is why I’m lucky to have a bank which provides an alternative.

Check if your bank offers the same (or any other institution where you get useless monthly letters) and make the change.

Yeah my aussie bank ANZ do but it can take days for transactions to appear and you are limited to 120-day period of transaction history – but it is handy.

Unfortunatly, I’ve found that online statements are not ‘auditable’ by the IRS (which requires you to keep that paperwork for 7 years).

My CU offers to go completely online, and they will send you historical statements should you need it, but again, if they ever change computer systems, who knows if it is available.

It scares me just a little.

I had some problems with mail theft in the past. Nice to know they won’t get my bank info that way. And now I live in a high rise where it seems like every now and then they have a sub on the route and I’ll get a few pieces of mail of other tennants. It’s nice to know they won’t get my info when it’s my mail that’s misplaced.
